A Pewter Spittoon by Eben Smith of Beverly, Massachusetts 1814-56. Smith is primarily known for his fine tea and coffeepots with and without “bright-cut” decoration. He also made lamps, candlesticks and church pewter.
This spittoon seems a tad out of character for him however he saw a need to produce this to fulfill the demand. This spittoon is in fine condition and has a mint touch on the outside bottom. It measures 3” tall with a top diameter of 5 15/16”. The top lifts off to facilitate cleaning...a disgusting job for sure.
