A Scarce Unmarked Pewter Taster Ladle by the Richard Lees - SOLD

Hampshire and Massachusetts before settling in Springfield Vermont. The younger Lee's entire career was in Springfield. They were active from the late 18th through early 19th century.

These were constructed in a very unique way. The turned handle appears to be made of fruit wood. The ferrule appears to be cast in place on the handle. The handle and ferrule were then hand soldered on the outer side of the bowl. The joint was filed and hand scraped. These joints are crude to say the least. This same method was used on larger Lee ladles.

The bowl of the ladle utilizes the bowl of a Lee taster porringer. Note the decoration around the upper lip. Although unmarked the use of the porringer bowl and construction method squarely places this ladle as coming from the Lees. The bowl measures 2 1/4" The overall length is 8”
