An Antique American Pewter Philadelphia Salt Attributed to Parks Boyd - SOLD

An Antique American Pewter Philadelphia Salt Attributed to Parks Boyd

Parks Boyd worked in Philadelphia from 1795 to 1819. He produced a wide variety of forms including mugs and tankards, flagons, teapots, cream pots, plates, dishes, basins, sugarbowls, as well as open salts.

Those salts that are attributed to him with confidence are known as the "wide neck" variety. Two other varieties of Philadelphia double belly salts are known the "narrow neck" variety that are from the shop of William Will and a size in between the previous two, maker uncertain.

This salt has 4 rows of beading the first such example we have ever had. The salt is in very good plus condition and does have etching on the interior as this example was actually used as a salt and salt is corrosive. The salt measures 2 7/16" tall to the lip. A most unusual example
