The "SG" crown handle porringer originated in New England in or around Boston. The eariest examples from this set of molds have no "SG". It is believed that those sans "SG" examples date prior to 1780.
The molds after the SG was added were used into the first quarter of the nineteenth century.
A most interesting feature of this particular porringer is the mold parting line on the inside of the bowl near the linen mark. This was caused when the inner core of the mold was slightly misaligned when the bowl was cast. The defect was not completely turned off in the finishing process.
The porringer is in fine condition. The bowl is 5 7/16" in diameter.
