A Fine 5 1/2" "SG" Coronet Eared Porringer

A Fine 5 1/2

A 5 ½” coronet handle porringer by “SG”. These have been attributed with confidence to the shop of Samuel Green. Examples exist of porringers with this same ear sans the “SG”. It is believed with sound reason that those were the product of Samuel’s father Thomas Green. The senior Green passed away in 1794 and Samuel Green purchased from his father’s estate, molds and tools that same year. It can be deduced that shortly after Samuel struck the “SG” on the back plates of several of the porringer ear (handle) molds.

This porringer is in fine condition with very clear turning lines on the back of the bowl and a well pronounced linen mark

Price: $175
