An Old English Handle Porringer by Josiah Danforth - SOLD
This Old English Handle porringer comes from the shop of Josiah Danforth, Middletown, Connecticut 1821-46. Bearing his earlier eagle touch dating 1821-30’s. During his earlier years, he produced Plates Basins Mugs Porringers and some early form Teapots. He made considerable numbers of tea and coffeepots of mid-century design during his later production which were marked with his rectangular name touch.
Josiah was William Danforth’s son. When Willian died in 1820 Josiah at the age of 18 took over the operations of the pewter shop.
The bowl of this porringer measure 4 1/16” in diameter, The porringer is in near fine condition with a fine as struck touchmark.
