A Fine Condition "IC" New England Coronet Handled Porringer

A Fine Condition

4 5/8” Coronet handle porringer with IC cast initials on the back of the handle. It is believed the IC originated with Jonas Clark an early 18th century Boston Pewterer.

There are many different treatments as to how the bowls of IC porringers are turned. First, they are found in different sizes. I believe the earliest type bowls have distinct trough surrounding the central boss. Later examples had an incised line delineating what would have been the outer edge of a trough. There are even later manufactured examples where the bowl is smooth from the edge of the boss all the way up the inside to the lip. This example is of the second type.

If Jonas Clark is indeed the originator of this ear mold these IC porringers were made from the early 18th century into the early 19th century. This porringer is in fine condition. The linen mark is well defined. A very nice example.

Price: $185
