4 ¼” SG handled porringer. There are definitely two different sizes of SG cast initial handles. The large handle has the SG clearly marked at the upper part of the handle just below the hanging hole. The smaller handle only has a partial SG at the same location...These porringers are of Boston Manufacture and were made by various pewters from the last third of the 18th century into the first quarter of the 19th.
This porringer is in very good condition. The casting of the bowl is quite thick, so thick in fact that the metal did not melt all the way through when the handle was cast in place (burnt on) hence the lack of a linen mark.
Someone cut their initials on the back of the handle. These New England Crown (Coronet) handle porringers display nicely on the edge of a shelf when all the varieties are displayed.
