A Crown or Coronet Handle Pewter Porringer by Thomas Danforth Boardman and Sherman Boardman
Thomas D. Boardman's career began after he had completed his apprenticeship training first with his uncle Edward until 1799 and finishing up with his uncle Samuel in 1804.
This Crown or Coronet handled porringer is marked by the partnership of Thomas with his younger Brother Sherman. Many new collectors sometimes misinterpret the TD of TD & SB as Thomas Danforth, when in fact it stands for Thomas Danforth Boardman.
This porringer’s bowl measures 5” in diameter. This piece is nearly mint and as nice an example as we had in recent memory. Although the Boardman firm was in business until the late 1860’s it is known based on the firm’s day books in the possession of the Connecticut Historical Society that porringer production fell to a trickle during the 1830’s. So, this most likely predates that timeframe.
