8 7/8” Single Reed Rim Pewter Plate by Robert Palethorp Jr., Philadelphia 1817-22. This plate is in fine condition with a near mint touchmark.

Of interest is the fact that this plate bears a paper label “From the Collection of J. B. Kerfoot. Kerfoot wrote a book American Pewter that was published in 1924. His book is an excellent reference in that the pieces are presented in photos along with photos of the touchmarks. Photographs of the actual touchmarks is important especially if one has questions if the touch is genuine or spurious.

Some of the information in this book is outdated and there are misattributions. However, it is a must for any collector of American Pewter. A fine piece from a historic collection.
