A Mint Single Reed Rim Plate by Edward Danforth
Mint condition single reed rim pewter plate by Edward Danforth of Hartford, Connecticut working 1786-1800.
Edward was the third born son of Thomas Danforth II of Middletown, Connecticut. He most likely began his apprenticeship with his father around 1780 however when Thomas II died in 1782 his training likely fell to his older brother Joseph and possibly with Thomas III.
Edward left Middletown for Hartford in 1786 where he set up shop. This plate is an amazing survival. It is virtually unused and is totally free of any knife marks. All the lathe turning marks are clear both on the front and the back of the plate.
The touch marks are mint “as struck” meaning there is absolutely no wear to them only that they are incomplete strikes.
The plate measures 7 15/16 inches in diameter.
Price: $495
