A Near Fine 8" Pewter Plate by Samuel Pierce - SOLD

8” Pewter Plate by Samuel Pierce, Greenfield, Massachusetts, 1792-1830. We recently had an example of this plate that was in mint unused condition. This example has seen use with fine knife marks on the well of the plate. The touches on this example a very fine and deeply impressed. Examples of Pierce pewter are fairly uncommon and to get a second example into our shop so soon is exciting.

This plate is a nice example by a relatively uncommon maker. Of interesting note Historic Deerfield has the die Pierce used to strike his touches on this plate. It is one of the very few original American Pewterers’ dies extant.
