A Near Mint 7 7/8 Pewter Plate by Edward Danforth - SOLD
Edward Danforth was the third son of Thomas Danforth II his skill as a pewterer is certainly in keeping with that of his father. His workmanship is excellent as seen in surviving examples.
He made a wide variety of forms including plates dishes basins mugs porringers and teapots.
This 7 7/8” plate is in nearly new condition with one or two minor scratches on the face of the plate. There is one small area on the rim that shows a whisper of etching. The touches are absolutely mint as struck. The die was struck quite firmly causing the impressions to “telescope” to the face surface. You can see this in the photo of the face of the plate.
