A Very Fine American Pewter Platter by Jacob Whitmore - SOLD
A very fine condition 12 1/8”” American Pewter platter by Jacob Whitmore, Middletown, Connecticut 1757-1790. Jacob Whitmore had an association with Thomas Danforth II, of Middletown (1755-1782) in that they worked together and jointly owned a number of molds for casting pewter.
Jacob is known to have produced plates in various sizes basins and mugs both pint and quart sizes. This 12” plate is the finest example we have ever had. It shows very little use. The face surface retains most of the original lathe marks. The touches are fine “as struck”. Only the back of the plate has some light etching with some fine pitting. A superb example
