A Fine American Pewter Plate by Samuel Danforth of Hartford - SOLD
This 7 7/8 “ pewter plate is by Samuel Danforth of Hartford, Connecticut. 1795-1816. Samuel was a very prolific maker. His products include plates ranging from 6” up to 13 ¼” deep dishes, many sizes of basins, short and tall beakers, pint and quart mugs, lidded quart tankards, superb spire flagons, and many different sizes and designs of porringers.
This plate is in fine condition with excellent strikes of his small eagle with “SD” in serrated circle. It is interesting to not that this touchmark was an alteration of one of his dies. Originally there were no serrations in the border. It is likely the edges became slightly damaged and the serrations were added to remove the damage. A fine example pewter plate
