A Near Mint Antque American Nathaniel Austin Single Reed Rim Pewter Plate - SOLD
Nathaniel Austin had his first shop in Charlestown, Massachusetts moving to Lunenburg, Massachusetts after the British shelled Charlestown and his home and shop were destroyed.
Austin’s first main touch was a lion in gateway. This was used likely until his shop was destroyed. It is believed his scroll touch as on this plate was developed after his move to Lunenburg. He later had an eagle touch based on the Federal Eagles of the period.
This plate is in very fine condition with a few minor areas of distress on the face side. The touches are as well struck as any examples we have had. Owner's initials on rim
The plate measures 8” in diameter
