A Fine Flat Rim Pewter Plate by John Skinner - SOLD

This very fine condition 9 /8" Flat Rim Pewter Plate was made by John Skinner of Boston. This plate has a beautifully hammered booge, a technique employed by American Pewterers during the 17th and 18th centuries.


Skinner was a skilled maker as attested to by the quality of metal and workmanship present in this plate. There is a small casting flaw in the rim.

The main touchmark is very well struck. Usually this mark ins weakly struck and the hallmarks are well impressed. In this case the hallmarks are not deeply struck while the main touch is.
