A Samuel Pierce Pewter Plate - SOLD
Samuel Pierce worked in Greenfield, MA from 1792-1830. Born in Middletown, CT in 1767 he likely trained in Joseph Danforth's shop.
Certainly his plate mold follows the pattern of the Middletown small plate molds.
This plate is in near fine condition with a very few blemishes. There are lathe turning marks on the face and back. The touchmarks are fine as struck. A nice example by a scarce maker. 7 15/16" in diameter.
Pierce's tools and several of his molds are on display at Historic Deerfield.
