A Pewter Basin by Thomas Danforth III - SOLD
Thomas Danforth III took over the Middletown Shop after his father died in 1782. He had been working there when his apprenticeship was completed circa 1777.
The single strike on the inside of the bowl is indicative of Thomas III rather than Thomas II. Thomas II's striking method employed two strikes of this Lion in Circle touch along with his "small" hallmarks on the back of the bowl.
In very good plus condition this basin measures 7 15/16". The touchmark is well struck and shows little wear.
