A quart mug by John Townsend of London 1748-1767. Townsend also had many partnerships and worked until his death in 1801.
This mug has an attention terminal handle. These were produced by cutting the ball terminal off and flattening the lower curve. This style was produced by many London pewterers on straight sided mugs. They continued to use the ball terminal on tulip shapes.
This mug is 5 7/8" tall to the lip. The metal is in fine condition with a few light pits to the right of the handle. The WR crowned is fine the Townsend touch is fair to good.
