A Taper-Sided Pewter Export Tankard by Bush & Pekins - SOLD
Quart Export Pewter tankard by the Firm of Bush and Perkins. The partners of the firm were Robert Bush Sr. and Richard Perkins. Perkins served his apprenticeship with Bush and the two formed this partnership circa 1775. How long this partnership lasted is not documented however due to the substantial survival of pieces both in England and the States it is safe to say that it likely survived to the beginning of the 19th century.
This tankard measures 7 3/8” tall to the top of the thumbpiece. The tankard is in very good plus condition and has been kept well maintained throughout its history.
There is some light etching on the interior of the body. The touch is very good plus. These taper sided B&P tankards as well as tulip ones are encountered in New England, New York and Pennsylvania. Apparently, they enjoyed a rather active market in these areas.
