A Well Worn Tulip Export Pewter Mug by John Townsend - SOLD
Pint Tulip Form Export Pewter Mug by John Townsend. This well-worn tulip mug was made by the firm of John Townsend of London, 1748-1801. It is marked with his small lamb and dove touch he used exclusively on hollowware.
This mug was used heavily and shows some denting to the back of the handle as well as numerous signs of less than delicate use on the body. I wish this one could talk and relate the number of stories told while being used to consume various brews. The more brew consumed the better the stories get.
This good condition mug measures 4 11/16” to the top of the lip. It has a WR crowned mark to the left of the handle and the well-worn John Townsend touch on the inside bottom.
