An Unusual Edgar & Son Inverted Mold Export Teapot - SOLD
This inverted mold export teapot is a product of the firm of Edgar & Son, Bristol 1810-1844. This design being an inverted mold is similar to some of the inverted mold teapots being produced in the United States during this time frame.
The teapot has a “blind hinge” of three parts that act like a toggle. When the lid is closed no part of the hinge is visible. We once had a drum shaped teapot by Edgar Curtis & Co with this same hinge design.
The teapot is in near fine condition with a fine as struck touch. The bone finial button has been replaced. Incidentally all of the Edgar & Son and Edgar Curtis & Co. teapots I have seen their original finial buttons are made of bone or ivory. There are a few minor dents to the back of the handle from use.
The teapot measures 5 ¾ “ tall to the top of the finial and the overall length from the tip of the spout to the back of the handle is 9 ¾” long.
We are only open by appointment. tel (860) 267-2146 Please call between 9:00 AM-8:00 PM EST
